Tarsus Ulu Mosque (Grand Mosque)
Tarsus, Mersin
A historic mosque with a large arcaded courtyard, built in the 16th century in the Ramazanid period.
Its story
The mosque was commissioned at the end of the 16th century, in the Ramazanid period. With the arcades surrounding its large courtyard and the minaret rising on the north side, it is a fine example of the region's post-Principalities architecture. Right next to it are the Kırkkaşık Bedesten and the Clock Tower; it is said that inside there is a tomb attributed to the Prophet Seth (Hz. Şit).
