Korykos Land Castle
Erdemli, Mersin
The coastal land castle of the ancient city of Korykos, directly opposite Kız Kalesi (Maiden's Castle).
Its story
Korykos was an important port city in the Roman and Byzantine periods. The land castle was enlarged in the Middle Ages with stones reused from ancient buildings and surrounded by a double line of walls. Inside the castle are the remains of a chapel and a cistern; around it are a large necropolis and rock tombs.
