Anemurium Ancient City
Anamur, Mersin
An ancient city on Cape Anamur, the southern tip of Anatolia, famous for its necropolis of hundreds of tomb structures.
Its story
The city was settled from the Phoenician period onward and experienced its most brilliant age in the Roman period. More than 350 tomb structures, with their walls and domes still standing, make its necropolis one of the most impressive in Anatolia. The theater, odeon, baths and aqueducts can also be explored. It is thought to have been abandoned after the Arab raids and earthquakes of the 7th century.
