Its story
The Kayseri Ulu Mosque was the largest building in the city at the time it was built and is generally dated to the time of the Danishmendid Emir Melik Mehmed Gazi. Its plan, developing in depth with aisles running perpendicular to the mihrab, is one of the oldest examples of this type in Anatolia. According to the inscription on the north door, the mosque was repaired in 1206 in the time of the Seljuk Sultan Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev I; the city's oldest minaret was also added in this repair. The mosque's original wooden door leaves are now preserved at the Ankara Ethnography Museum.
