Its story
The Kara Mustafa Paşa Complex was commissioned in 1660 at İncesu by the Ottoman vizier Merzifonlu Kara Mustafa Paşa as a staging post on the Istanbul–Baghdad and pilgrimage road. According to its endowment deed, the complex once also had fountains, a tannery, a linseed-oil press, a granary, a dyehouse and a courthouse. The caravanserai, mosque, hamam, madrasa and arasta with thirty shops standing today reflect the grandeur of Ottoman trade routes in the provinces. The buildings have undergone various repairs since the mid-20th century; in 2022 a new restoration was launched on the initiative of the Kayseri Governorship.
