Its story
The Nasrullah Mosque was commissioned in 1506, in the reign of Bayezid II, by Kadı Nasrullah together with a bridge and a şadırvan, and is one of the first monumental Ottoman buildings in the city. Built with six domes, the mosque acquired a nine-domed grand mosque plan with the enlargement of 1746. The calligraphy and decoration inside belong to the Kastamonu calligrapher Ahmet Şevki Efendi. During the years of the National Struggle, Mehmet Akif Ersoy preached here and read the İstiklâl Marşı (National Anthem) for the first time in this mosque, before its adoption by the Assembly. The multi-tap şadırvan in front of it and the tea gardens in the square are the center of the city's daily life.
