Its story
The cistern is one of the largest covered cisterns in the city and is associated with Philoxenos, one of the prominent figures of Constantine's time. Tall columns made of two shafts stacked one on top of the other carry the brick vaults. In the Ottoman period it was used for various purposes, such as a silk-spinning workshop. Also used as an event and exhibition space after its restoration, the cistern is a few minutes' walk from Sultanahmet.
