Its story
Hard coal was discovered in Türkiye in 1829 by Uzun Mehmet from the village of Kestaneci in Karadeniz Ereğli. This discovery is considered the beginning of Zonguldak's transformation over time from a village into a mining city. The Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism lists the Uzunmehmet Monument in the city among Zonguldak's important tourist spots.
