Its story
The exact construction date of the bridge over the Müküs Çayı (Müküs Stream), on the road between Bahçesaray (formerly Müküs) and Hizan, is unknown; judging by building activity in the area, it is estimated to have been built in the 16th-17th centuries. Running east-west, the bridge belongs to the group of single-span bridges with a sloping deck; its pointed-arch span is built of brick, and its walls of rough-hewn stone. Having a room on each side sets it apart from the other bridges in the region. The bridge is sound and in use today. Bahçesaray is reached from Van by crossing the Karabet Pass at about 3000 meters, considered one of the highest road passes in Türkiye; its walnut orchards and deep valleys make the journey an experience in itself.
