Its story
According to its endowment deed (vakfiye), construction of the mosque was begun in 1660 by Kaya Çelebizade Koçi Bey; after Koçi Bey's execution, Cem Dedemoğlu Mehmet Bey completed the construction in 1663. It stands between the Orta Kapı and Yeni Kapı gates of Old Van City, just behind the walls. The facades of the building, which consists of a square-plan, single-domed prayer hall and a five-bay narthex, are built of two-colored cut stone and enlivened with windows of different shapes. The limestone mihrab is framed by a border with muqarnas and stands out with its plant and geometric decoration. The minaret, with a square base and cylindrical shaft, is at the northwest corner. It can be visited together with the nearby Hüsrev Paşa Complex; the mosque is open for worship today.
