Its story
According to the inscription above the entrance door, the kümbet was commissioned in 1335 by Melik İzzeddin Şir, considered the founder of the Hakkari Principality, for his daughter Halime Hatun; the inscription on the south window gives its architect as Esed, son of Pehlivan of Ahlat. The two-story building, following the plan of the Ahlat kümbets, consists of a twelve-sided body on a square base with chamfered corners and a pyramidal cap; plant, geometric and calligraphic decoration covers the facades, with a band bearing verses of the Surah al-Fath running around them. West of the kümbet stretches the Gevaş Seljuk Cemetery, considered one of Anatolia's important medieval Islamic cemeteries and full of carved gravestones; nearby is the ruined İzzeddin Şir Mosque. The kümbet has been restored by the Foundations administration.
