Uşak Ulu Mosque (Grand Mosque)
Merkez, Uşak
One of the oldest places of worship in the city center, dating from the Germiyanoğulları period.
Its story
Uşak Ulu Mosque is in the city center, within the historic bazaar. The inscription on its door relates that water was brought here in 1419, in the time of the Germiyan Bey Yakub II, by Kavşitoğlu Mehmed; however, this inscription is thought to have actually belonged to a fountain in the courtyard. Evliya Çelebi wrote that the mosque had a large congregation and that its dome was covered with wood on the inside. It is the natural starting point for a tour of the bazaar.
