Its story
Gola Çetu, meaning 'the place where the waters meet' in Zazaki, is at the point in Tunceli where the Munzur and Pülümür streams join, and is also known as Hızır's Lake. According to the belief that is told, Hızır and Munzur Baba, who had been on bad terms, were reconciled here, and Hızır gave Munzur musahiplik (ritual brotherhood); it is believed that the two turned into water and reached the sea together. For this reason, candles are traditionally lit here on Thursday evenings, prayers are said and great importance is given to reconciling those who have fallen out. When the area was in danger of being left within the reservoir of the Uzunçayır Dam, it was turned into a park by the Tunceli Municipality in 2011; a legal process later followed regarding this landscaping. GoTürkiye recommends that visitors see Gola Çetu and the cemevi just above it, and photograph the view of the two waters joining.
