Its story
Çemişgezek is a historic town that was the center of the Çemişgezek Principality in the Middle Ages and kept its importance as a sanjak center in the Ottoman period. According to the TDV Encyclopedia of Islam, the Yelmaniye Mosque belongs to the years 1396–1404, that is, the period when Mongol rule in the region weakened and Turkmen beys were influential. The rectangular prayer hall has a central plan, with a domed central space and barrel-vaulted sections surrounding it on four sides; the spaces at the corners are covered with lower vaults. The plant and geometric motifs worked in low relief above the main door on the west facade are presented as important examples of Turkish decorative art. The tile-covered mihrab on the south wall is also a striking detail of the building. It can be seen on the same short walk as Çemişgezek's historic hamams and the Süleymaniye Mosque.
