Its story
The Süleymaniye Mosque, also called the Kale (Castle) Mosque, belongs according to the TDV Encyclopedia of Islam to the late 15th to early 16th century; this coincides with the period when Çemişgezek passed to Ottoman rule. The building, covering a rectangular area from the outside, consists of a narthex closed on four sides to the north and the prayer hall. The three-aisled prayer hall, parallel to the mihrab, is covered with a barrel vault inside and a flat roof outside. The semi-cylindrical mihrab and the minbar, made of white cut stone, have survived in their original state. Northeast of the mosque rises a brick minaret with a cylindrical shaft. Located among Çemişgezek's narrow streets and two-story houses, the mosque is one of the stops on a tour of the town's historic core near the castle.
