Its story
The mosque is one of the two surviving buildings of the Hatuniye Complex, founded in memory of Gülbahar Hatun, mother of Prince Selim (Yavuz Sultan Selim), who served as governor of Trabzon; sources give the date 1514. It is an example of the early Ottoman mosque type with zaviyes: there is a five-domed narthex, a prayer hall with a single large dome, and domed rooms on both sides. Grey and yellowish stones are used alternately in the windows and arches. The octagonal, domed tomb to the east of the mosque is the oldest building of the complex; its window arches are decorated with colored stones and medallions. The entrance inscription records a repair in 1885. The mosque, south of Atapark, is one of the city's popular meeting points.
