Its story
Heraion Teichos means 'the city of Hera' and is a Propontis (Marmara) city founded around 600 BC by colonists from Samos. However, excavations show that the site was inhabited much earlier, from the 3rd millennium BC, and that settlement continued until the 13th century AD. In 352 BC the city was besieged by King Philip II of Macedon. Tandır-shaped ovens and other finds from the excavations are kept in the Tekirdağ Museum.
