Meydan Mosque (Koca Hasan Paşa Mosque)
Merkez, Sivas
An Ottoman mosque of cut stone with a hipped roof, commissioned in 1564 by the vizier Koca Hasan Paşa.
Its story
The Meydan Mosque was commissioned in 1564 by the vizier Koca Hasan Paşa. The rectangular building, measuring about 27.70 x 19.17 meters, is built of cut stone and covered with a hipped roof; the narthex was added later. Because of its location near the city's old bazaar area, it remained at the center of neighborhood life for many centuries. It can be seen on the same walk as the Kurşunlu Hamamı and the Behram Paşa Hanı. Its plain facade forms an interesting contrast with the ornate world of the Seljuk madrasas.
