Its story
Mem û Zîn is a love story accepted as having taken place in 1450-1451, in the time of Mir Zeynuddin, son of Emir Abdal, the bey of Cizre: Zin, the bey's sister, and Mem, son of the court scribe, cannot be united because of the intrigues of Beko, the palace gatekeeper, and the story ends with the two being buried side by side. Ahmed-i Hani turned this story into a mesnevi in Kurmanji verse in 1690, and the work has been translated into many languages. The graves attributed to Mem and Zin are in part of the registered Mir Abdal (Abdaliye) Mosque and Madrasa group of buildings in the southwest of Cizre. The Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism states that the tomb is constantly visited by domestic and foreign visitors; it can be toured on foot together with the nearby Kızıl Madrasa and the Tomb of the Prophet Noah.
