Its story
The complex in the town of Veyselkarani (formerly Ziyaret) is among the best known of the shrine-tombs in Anatolia attributed to Uwais al-Qarani (Üveys el-Karanî). The original construction date of the buildings is unknown; 10th-century geographers mention a masjid here, Evliya Çelebi describes the mosque and tomb in detail, and Matrakçı Nasuh's miniature dated 1534 also shows the octagonal tomb with an adjoining domed mosque. The present tomb was rebuilt to the same dimensions in 1967 after the old building was demolished; the complex has been arranged by the Foundations administration since 1974 and saw its last comprehensive repair in 1998-2001. The tomb has a wooden sarcophagus with plant decoration, and the courtyard has a square-plan domed mosque and a şadırvan. Commemoration days are held every year on 16-17 May.
