Its story
In the complex in the south of the city, in Eyyübiye, which takes its name from this shrine, are the 'Çile Mağarası' (Cave of Suffering) and the 'Şifalı Kuyu' (Healing Well). According to tradition, the Prophet Job (Eyyüp) waited patiently in this cave throughout his long illness while his wife Rahime cared for him; finally, by God's command, he struck his foot on the ground and was healed by washing in the cold water that gushed out. The water of the well is believed to be good for illnesses. Some sources report that in the Byzantine period Bishop Nona, also believing in the healing power of this water, had a hospital and bath built here. The complex with its garden offers a calm setting for a visit.
