Midyat Guesthouse (Midyat Konukevi)
Midyat, Mardin
A three-story mansion built in 1850 at the highest point of Midyat, also used as a TV series location, with stonework and a city view from its terrace.
Its story
The mansion was built in 1850 at the highest point of Midyat by the Syriac Şabo family; famous Syriac stonemasons of the period worked on its construction. The third floor was added in 1930, and the building later passed into public ownership and was restored. On the lowest floor is a room carved into the bedrock; on the upper floors, rooms arranged in an L shape open onto wide terraces. From the roof, reached by a narrow, tunnel-like staircase, you can see all of Midyat and the rooftops of the stone houses. The kitchen building in the courtyard contains a water well. Its use as a location in TV series such as Sıla and Hercai has made the mansion one of Midyat's symbols.
