Temple of Artemis at Sardis
Salihli, Manisa
A Hellenistic temple in the Paktolos valley at the foot of the acropolis, known for its standing giant Ionic columns.
Its story
The temple is at the western foot of the acropolis hill of Sardis, in the Paktolos (Sart Çayı) valley. Its construction, begun in the Hellenistic period, continued into the Roman period; though never completed, it is counted among the largest Ionic temples in Anatolia. Two standing columns and fallen column fragments reveal its scale; at its corner is a small church added in the Byzantine period.
