Church of St. John (St. Jean)
Alaşehir, Manisa
A 6th-century basilica associated with the early Christian community of Philadelphia, with its massive brick piers still standing.
Its story
The church within the Alaşehir Archaeological Site dates to the 6th century. The building's most striking feature is its surviving monumental piers; column fragments and stones taken from older buildings were used in the walls. As it is associated with Philadelphia, one of the seven churches of the Book of Revelation, it is also a stop on faith tours.
