Its story
Construction of the building began in 1926; it was used as the Türk Ocağı (Turkish Hearth), the CHP provincial headquarters and the Halkevi (People's House), and for a time as an annex of Malatya High School. With its dressed cut-stone facade, it is one of the few examples in the city of the First National Architectural movement. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk held meetings in this building during his visits to Malatya in 1931 and 1937. Today the museum displays photographs of his visits, a reception room, documents relating to the martyrs of the First World War, weapons and ethnographic artifacts from the Ottoman period to the early Republic. The wool carpets with figures of Atatürk and Corporal Seyit (Seyit Onbaşı) at the entrance are also notable.
