Germiyan Sokağı (Germiyan Street)
Merkez, Kütahya
A historic cobbled street in the Pirler neighborhood where 18th-century Kütahya houses are preserved as an ensemble.
Its story
Germiyan Sokağı, lined with two- or three-story timber Kütahya houses one after another, is where the city's historic fabric is most completely preserved. Projections carried on brackets, large double-leaf doors and latticed windows are typical elements of Anatolian timber architecture. The absence of visible electricity and telephone wires on the street gives the walk a special time-travel atmosphere. Some of the houses have been restored through a governor's office project.
