Safety warning

A climb on paths and rocky ground is required; be careful at the cistern and the edges of collapsed walls, and take water and a hat in summer.

Its story

Zengicek Castle is on the northern border of ancient Lycaonia, on Bozdağ about 1.5 km northwest of the Koçyaka (Zengicek) neighborhood. According to the Kültür Envanteri, the castle, dated to the 5th century, controlled the road crossing the region north–south in the Middle Byzantine period. The structure, set on a rocky plateau, has a polygonal plan about 40 m in diameter; to the northeast there is a round tower and a protective ramp, and in the middle of the plateau a cistern and an angular tower. The tower walls are built of rubble stone with lime mortar, with wooden beams placed between them. From the top, the surrounding steppe and the northern part of the Konya Plain are seen widely.
