Zazadin Han
Selçuklu, Konya
A monumental Seljuk caravanserai on the Konya–Aksaray road, completed in 1236 according to its inscription, built with spolia stones.
Its story
The han was commissioned by Sadeddin Köpek, a powerful emir in the reigns of Alâeddin Keykubad I and Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev II; the entrance inscription documents that construction was completed in 1236. The rectangular cut-stone building consists of a summer section with an open courtyard surrounded by arcades and a covered winter section. Spolia stones and inscriptions brought from the Byzantine and Roman periods stand out in the walls. Its high, castle-like walls and corner towers were meant to ensure the security of the caravans. It is about 22 kilometers from the city center.
