Church of St. Paul
Meram, Konya
The Catholic Church of St. Paul, southeast of Alâeddin Hill, built in 1910 and the only church still standing in Konya.
Its story
The church takes its name from Paul, who stopped at Iconium, that is Konya, on his first missionary journey. It was built of Sille stone in 1910 by Assumptionist priests to serve the families of French technicians working in the city at the time. It is notable for its plain, Gothic-influenced facade and small interior. While Konya's other churches were demolished or converted to other functions, this building has remained open for worship; it is a stop on faith tours following Paul's travel route.
