Its story
The bridge was built at the beginning of the 20th century by order of Sultan Abdülhamid II to cross the Kızılırmak on the road linking Ankara to the east; its inscription gives the date 1903. The bridge, about 99 meters long, whose construction was completed by a foreign company, was used during the War of Independence years to carry ammunition from the depots of Central Anatolia to Ankara. Registered in 1995, the bridge was restored by the General Directorate of Highways in 2012. Because of the modern bridge built right beside it, it is open today only to pedestrians. It is suitable for a short walk and photo break on the bank of the Kızılırmak.
