Liva Paşa Mansion Ethnography Museum
Merkez, Kastamonu
An ethnography museum in the three-story Liva Paşa Mansion dated 1887, displaying Kastamonu's urban life and the wooden door of the Kasaba Mosque.
Its story
The mansion was commissioned in 1887 by Sadık Paşa, an Ottoman mirliva (brigadier general), and purchased by the Ministry of Culture in 1978. Since 1997 it has served as the Kastamonu Ethnography Museum. On the ground floor there is a library specializing in Kastamonu and a painting gallery. The upper floors display ethnographic items and Kastamonu home life re-created with mannequins. The most striking piece in the collection is the wooden door of the Kasaba Village Mahmut Bey Mosque, built in 1366.
