Safety warning
Its story
The Sarıkamış Operation comprises the battles fought between the Ottoman and Russian armies in and around Sarıkamış between 22 December 1914 and January 1915; units trying to cross the Allahuekber Mountains suffered enormous losses because of severe snow and blizzards. The Dikenli Tepe Tabya Martyrs' Memorial is one of the martyrs' memorials arranged in memory of the operation within the Sarıkamış-Allahuekber Mountains National Park. The Kızılçubuk area, where the memorial stands, is also the scene of commemorative marches attended by thousands of people every year at the beginning of January. The stone-paved ceremonial paths and ridges around it make it possible to see on site the mountainous, forested terrain where the operation took place.
