Its story
The church is in the center of the village of Doğruyol, formerly called Çala, in the Palakatsio region of historic Georgia. Dated to the 10th century, the building was left without a congregation after the village came under Ottoman rule in the second half of the 16th century, and in the early 20th century it was used as a mosque by the Karapapakhs in the village; later a new mosque was built adjoining the church. The facades of the single-nave building with a semicircular apse are divided into three by pilasters and arches and faced with dressed cut stone. The Georgian inscription on the outer wall asks the Virgin Mary for mercy for a person named Mirtad.
