Its story
The Köskerlik Rock Tombs are in the necropolis area around the settlement referred to in ancient sources as Sidamara, north of Ayrancı, and are also called the Sidamaria Ancient Cemetery. The Kültür Envanteri records the site as monumental tombs and rock tombs from the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods; Ambar Höyük is right nearby. The area around the village of Ambar is known as the find site of the Roman-period Sidamara sarcophagus, found in the last quarter of the 19th century and moved to the Istanbul Archaeology Museums, known for its weight of more than 30 tons. The site is not a developed archaeological site today; the rock tombs are toured on open land.
