Its story
The Köprülü Mehmet Paşa Mosque was commissioned by the Grand Vizier Köprülü Mehmet Paşa, who began the Köprülü era; the endowment seal and records show that the mosque opened for worship in 1661–1662. The pasha is known to have lived in Safranbolu for a time before becoming grand vizier. The courtyard is entered through a large stone arch; in the courtyard there are a şadırvan, a sundial, and a building used as a library and timekeeper's house (muvakkithane). One of the mosque's doors opens directly onto the arasta. The mosque, forming a small complex together with a madrasa, a hamam and a şadırvan, is one of the buildings that determined the layout of the bazaar area.
