Walls surrounding Foça harbor, repaired in the Genoese and Ottoman periods, and the Beşkapılar bastion.
Its story
The walls surrounding Foça's historic peninsula were rebuilt on the remains of ancient Phokaia in the Byzantine, Genoese and Ottoman periods. Its best-known section is the bastion overlooking the harbor, known as Beşkapılar (Five Gates). It underwent extensive repairs in the 16th century, in the Ottoman period. Walking around the castle, you can also take in the old Greek houses and the fishing harbor.
