Allianoi
Bergama, İzmir
A large Roman-period spa settlement; today under the Yortanlı Dam reservoir, protected by a covering of sand.
Its story
Allianoi is a healing settlement at the Paşa Ilıcası locality northeast of Bergama, with remains mostly dating to the 2nd century AD. Rescue excavations uncovered baths, a bridge, streets and the statue known as the 'Nymph of Allianoi'. Because of the Yortanlı Dam, the site was covered with sand in 2011 and now lies beneath the reservoir. A significant part of the finds can be seen in the Bergama Museum.
