Şile Lighthouse
Şile, İstanbul
An octagonal stone lighthouse on the Şile coast, first lit in 1859 as one of the largest lighthouses in Türkiye.
Its story
The lighthouse was built by the French during the Crimean War to make ship traffic on the Black Sea safe and came into service in 1859. The stone tower with an octagonal shaft casts its light so that it can be seen from many kilometers away. The lighthouse is now operated by the Directorate General of Coastal Safety and receives visitors on certain days. From its slope you can see the islet with Şile Castle and the town's beaches.
