Sakıp Sabancı Museum
Sarıyer, İstanbul
A private museum in the Atlı Köşk in Emirgan, known for its calligraphy collection and international exhibitions.
Its story
The museum opened in 2002, under Sabancı University, in a waterside mansion built in the 1920s and known as the Atlı Köşk (Pavilion with the Horse) because of the horse statue in its garden. The permanent collection includes Ottoman calligraphy, Quran manuscripts and 19th–20th-century paintings. The museum has become famous for large-scale temporary exhibitions of world-renowned artists. Its garden overlooking the Bosphorus is also an important part of the visit.
