İstanbul Modern
Beyoğlu, İstanbul
An art museum on the Karaköy quay displaying a collection of modern and contemporary Turkish art, which moved to its new building in 2023.
Its story
İstanbul Modern opened in 2004 in a former warehouse in Karaköy as Türkiye's first museum of modern and contemporary art. After temporarily operating in a building in Beyoğlu, it reopened in 2023 in its new building on the same quay, designed by Renzo Piano. The collection includes painting, sculpture, photography and video art; from the terrace you can see the Historic Peninsula and the entrance to the Bosphorus. The museum also runs a cinema, a library and educational programs.
