Its story
The İmera Monastery is in the village of Olucak, about 37 km from the city center, and is also known as the Monastery of St. John Prodromos. Sources give different dates for its construction; Go Türkiye reports that the monastery was founded in the 18th century, that its living units were built in 1827 and that it was renovated in 1859 by the abbess Roksane. The three-aisled church with three apses is built of cut and rubble stone; in the stepped friezes of the stone door frame, bunches of grapes and geometric and plant motifs are seen, and in the pointed-arched windows on the south facade, figures of angels and double-headed eagles. The site was registered as an archaeological site in 2009. The nearby Krom Valley hosts many churches and old village houses.
