Its story
The town takes its name from Tripolis, that is, 'three cities'; this is said to come from three capes or from the Sen Jan, Bedrama and Andoz castles. Tirebolu Castle, also called Sen Jan, is on a natural rock on the peninsula extending into the sea; its construction date is not known for certain. The walls of the single-entrance castle are supported by buttress towers; at the front are artillery towers and a cannon. Inside, Ottoman gravestones moved from elsewhere are displayed.
