Its story
The center at Kandilli in the Aşkale district, about 36 km west of Erzurum, was completed in 2010 for the 2011 Winter Universiade. On an area of 160 hectares at 1,713–1,767 m, there are cross-country ski trails 2.5, 3.75 and 5 km long, sprint courses and a ski stadium. Besides the Universiade, it hosted the biathlon and cross-country skiing events of the 2017 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival. Unlike alpine skiing, skiing here takes place on nearly flat, forested and open terrain; it is also used as a camp and competition venue for athletes.
