Its story
The canyon begins between the district's Bahçe and Kayabaşı neighborhoods and separates the Bahçe and Sarılı neighborhoods from the district center. Cutting through the Hınıs plain at an elevation of about 1,720 meters, the Hınıs Stream forms a valley with narrow, steep walls in places. Within the canyon are the Hınıs Ulu Mosque, built in 1734 by Alaeddin Bey, one of the beys of Muş, and the remains of the old Hınıs Castle; the district's first settlement was also in the section between this valley and the castle. By a January 2021 decision of the Erzurum Regional Commission for the Protection of Natural Assets, the geological and natural formations in the area were registered. It is a good route for rafting when the water level is high, and for hiking, cycling and nature photography at other times.
