Its story

The mystic, whose real name was Mehmed Vehbi and who was known as Terzi Baba (Father Tailor) because of his profession as a tailor, was the representative of the Khalidi branch of the Naqshbandi order in the Erzincan area. When he died in the cholera epidemic of 1848, he was buried in a wooden tomb built by his disciples; the city cemetery, formerly called Kaledibi, also gradually came to bear his name. When the wooden tomb was destroyed in a fire, the municipality had a new cut-stone tomb built in its place in the 1980s. The plain building, reached by four steps, with a two-columned portico and an octagonal dome, has iron grilles on its door and windows. The cemetery also contains other tombs, such as that of Hacı Hafız, one of Terzibaba's disciples; the tomb welcomes visitors from within and outside the city year-round.
