Its story
The Alacalı Mosque was built in 1203–1204, in the time of Hızır Bey during the Harput Artuqid period; the TDV Encyclopedia of Islam also counts the building among Harput's important Artuqid works. What gives the small, rectangular mosque its name is its alacalı (multicolored) stonework, created with cut stones in two different colors, frequently seen in Artuqid architecture. Located at the entrance to Kitapçıgil Park, the building stands out for its early date among Harput's many masjids and mosques. Visited together with the Ulu Mosque, it allows you to see examples of Artuqid stonework in Harput at different scales. It is suitable for a short visit.
