Its story
When the Keban Dam Lake filled in 1974, Ağın lost its road connection to central Elazığ and for about 40 years could only reach the provincial center by ferry. The foundation of the cable-stayed bridge that restored this connection was laid in 2001; after changes to the project, construction resumed in 2012 and was completed, and the bridge opened to traffic in October 2015. 520 meters long, with a main span of 280 meters and a width of 13 meters, the bridge was among Türkiye's longest bridges when it opened. The bridge takes its name from the old Roman-period stone-arched Karamağara Bridge nearby; before the dam lake formed, the stones of this historic bridge were dismantled and moved to the Elazığ Museum. Stretching among the bends of the lake, the bridge is a good spot for a scenic and photo stop on the Ağın road.
