Its story
Kefrum Castle is in the Kulp district, on a steep rock where the old settlement of Kulp stood until 1899. The castle's founding date is debated: while local historians take its origins back thousands of years, the academic view is that its foundations were laid in the Byzantine period, in the 4th–5th centuries AD. According to reports, it passed to the Marwanids after the Assyrian period, and the beys of Kulp are also linked to the Marwanid line. In the inner castle, where the administration was, are about ten water cisterns and building foundations, and in the outer castle wall remains can be seen; its walls are said to be the only walls built of brick in the Diyarbakır region. Not yet excavated, the site draws interest for nature walks and paragliding.
