Its story
Sources date the Hazro Ulu Mosque differently: Wikipedia and the Cultural Inventory link the building to the 13th-century Ayyubid period, while İrfan Yıldız's 2014 study argues that the original building was built in the 16th century by the Tercil Beylik, which was subject to the Ottomans. According to the same study, the mosque was originally square in plan with a single dome and shares the same plan scheme as the Şah Ali Bey Mosque in Çermik and the Kara Behlül Bey Mosque in Silvan. In the building, enlarged with additions in 1927–30, 1947–50 and 1962, the minaret ended up inside the added spaces. The mosque in the district center is the most important known historic building in Hazro.
