Its story
Eğil is a faith tourism center where the graves of the prophets Zülkifl (Dhul-Kifl) and Elyesa (Elisha), mentioned in the Quran, are believed to be located. The graves were formerly in areas close to the bed of the Tigris; so that they would not be submerged by the waters of the Dicle Dam, they were moved in 1995, on the initiative of the General Directorate of Foundations, to a hill overlooking the town and the dam lake. Since then, the place known as Nebi Harun Hill has been called Ziyaret Hill (Pilgrimage Hill). With the landscaping of 2012, a mosque, ablution facilities and rest areas were built on the hill. From the hill there is a wide view of Eğil Castle and the Dicle Dam Lake; GoTürkiye notes that the hill is also used for paragliding take-offs. The Eğil Prophets Nature Park, declared in the district in 2017, is also near this area.
